Allendale Primary is dedicated to the improvement of English skills in all students. Please click here to find our strategic plan that details our key focus areas.

Strategic Plan

Allendale focuses on a strong whole school approach to English through a dedicated Literacy Block with key directions in spelling, writing and synthetic phonics in the early years. A huge emphasis is placed on our home reading program where we celebrate student achievements in milestone numbers of nights read.

Each year we celebrate National Literacy and Numeracy week with the annual book week parade. Students and staff make a huge effort to dress as their favourite book character to celebrate this special week. Our library showcases the shortlisted books for the year as part of our commitment to ensure our students have access to quality Australian literature.

In 2016 we had a whole school writing competition. Staff also submitted stories for the students to judge. It was lots of fun!

Our K-2 classes teach Synthetic Phonics to all students. We work closely with the West Coast Speech and Language Centre to ensure Synthetic Phonics is taught explicitly. The video below shows some Synthetic Phonics being taught!

Our Pre Primary students are learning to communicate using Key Word Sign. They are very clever.
